In case you didn’t know, May is Masturbation Month, which means it’s time to get your right-hand busy guys. It’s an entire month dedicated to jerking off, and we should be celebrating it.
A long, long, long time ago, masturbation was thought to be a sinful and horrible activity that was somehow a detriment to health, leading to blindness, acne, and hemorrhoids. Oh funny how they were wrong!
Even recently, the anti-masturbation advocates have been arguing that rubbing one out makes you weaker, uninterested in your partner and kind of ruins your life, therefore you should never, ever masturbate. Ummm that’s super lame!
But no worries guys, we have science on our side and we can confidently and accurately prove that masturbation is not bad for you! Thanks to a recent study, we have compiled data that proves that masturbating has some interesting health benefits and is really, really good for you, despite what the taboo naysayers believe!
So, in honor of Masturbation Month, here they are!
6 Reasons for Getting Off
1. It makes you happy.
As you already know, getting off feels great and brightens your mood; no explanation needed. It fact, when you masturbate, your brain gets a massive dosage of neurotransmitters including dopamine and oxytocin, which are responsible for an increase in mood, making you feel satisfied and full of joy.
“An orgasm is the biggest non-drug blast of dopamine,” says clinical sexologist Dr. Gloria Brame.” A brain scan of someone having an orgasm looks like a heroin addict’s.”
Note: In case that comparison to a heroin addict freaked you out, let me clear the air. When a person injects heroin, their brain gets flooded with dopamine, which is why they feel incredible when they’re high. So basically, organisms are like heroin minus the shooting up.
2. It helps you last longer.
We all know that round two always last longer…right? Right. So it only makes sense that masturbating before sex will help you have a lot more control, so you can effectively avoid the omg-I-touched-a boob-and-I-liked-it situation.
Brame suggests that “masturbating” an hour before a date. It will give you more control reiterating that a little self-love can go a long way.
3. It keeps the cold and flu away.
According to hormone specialist Dr. Jennifer Landa, jerking off temporarily increases your production of cortisol, which is crucial for your ability to defend your body against everyday stress and in small doses regulate and maintain immunity.
“Masturbation can produce the right environment for a strengthened immune system,” Landa says, suggesting an orgasm a day keeps the doctor away.
4. It prevents cancer.
Fun fact guys: not ejaculating regularly can give you cancer, which is why you should masturbate more often.
When you refrain from ejaculating regularly, the fluid in your prostate becomes stagnant and full of disgusting viruses and bacteria, which can lead to a bunch of serious health problems, including cancer. And let’s be honest, no one wants cancer- especially down there.
Researchers from the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public discovered that twenty-something men who ejaculated on an average of 21 times a month were 19 times less likely to develop prostate cancer, and in 40-year old, that number jumped to 22 percent. Another study found that men who jerked off over five times a week were 33 percent less likely to develop prostate cancer.
In all honesty, I think that’s reason enough to rub one out as much possible! You know, just to keep the plumbing happy.
5. It helps you sleep better.
You know you get super sleepy right after you orgasm, and you basically knock out into a comatose slumber? Well, there’s a reason for that! Remember, when you orgasm, your brain releases a solid amount of feel-good hormones and neurotransmitters, which makes you feel awesome and sleepy.
Plus, after you rub one out, your prefrontal cortex, which is basically the command center of your brain, slows to a glacial pace and allows you to forget all the bothersome thoughts and worries and happy drift off into the world of blissful slumber.
6. It makes your erections extra hard.
I hate to be so honest, but the universal truth is that once you get older, your entire body loses muscle tone. And sadly, this includes your penis and everything around it.
That said, masturbating allows your pelvic floor muscles to work and strengthens them, which prevents erectile dysfunction and incontinence. So, the more you jerk off, the better your boners will be! And, you’ll even avoid peeing a little when you sneeze, so it’s a win-win guy!
“It keeps the angle of your dangle perky,” says Brame, suggesting if you don’t use it, you lose it.
