Pete Davidson has officially retired from SNL
Along with other iconic SNL cast mates from the last decade, Aidy Bryant, Kate McKinnon, and Kyle Mooney, Pete Davidson performed on the classic NBC show for the last time on May 21, 2022. This marked the end of the forty-seventh season of the sketch-variety show.
Live From New York, It’s Kim Kardashian
All four of these artists are deserving of exciting careers after departing SNL, but all eyes are on Pete. In case you’ve been living under a rock, it is not obligatory to mention who Pete Davidson is currently dating: Reality TV Royal, Kim Kardashian. His relationship with the TV star-turned-Forbes billionaire has been the talk of tabloids since Kim K’s appearance on SNL. According to US Weekly, she hosted the show in October 2021 where they shared a public kiss in an Aladdin themed sketch. Their relationship went public in March of this year, but it was Ye’s reaction to the budding relationship that took this couple’s status to the next level.
Davidson is no stranger to having his relationships make headlines. His whirlwind engagement to superstar Ariana Grande was the talk of 2018. His full name even became a track on Ariana’s pre-”Thank U Next” album “Sweetener.”
Pete the Comedian vs. Pete the Celebrity
With such high profile romances, it’s almost easy to forget that Davidson was a celebrity before he was holding hands with Kim K on a roller coaster. Fans can attribute his fame to his work on SNL. So what’s next?
Between the headlines of Pete kissing famous women, he’s actually been very busy. His semi-biographical film The King of Staten Island premiered in 2020 and received a high score from Rotten Tomatoes. In 2019, he starred in Hulu film Big Time Adolescence. He performed a comedy set for the first time in three years for Netflix is a Joke: The Festival earlier this month. And those are just some highlights from his stacked IMDb resume.
Jack Harlow Sees Pete’s Future
Davidson recently made Time’s 2022 List of 100 Most Influential People in a feature by Grammy-nominated rapper Jack Harlow. Harlow describes Pete Davidson as one of a kind:
“We have a truly unique talent in Pete Davidson. He’s bold, insightful, and incredibly funny, and he’s just 28 years old. He has accomplished a lot already, but there’s so much more greatness ahead for him.”
Is Harlow correct? Will Pete Davidson’s exit from 8 years of SNL propel him to become a comedy icon? Or has his current relationship with The Kardashian family solidified his status as a permanent figure in pop culture?
