The Baltimore Ravens took the opportunity this Sunday Night playing against the Kansas City Chiefs to honor the late Michael K. Williams. On the same night actress, Kerry Washington also honored Williams at the 73rd Emmy Award ceremony. Prior to Williams’ death on September 6th, the 54-year-old actor was nominated for an Emmy for the role of Montrose Freeman in HBO’s “Lovecraft Country”. The Ravens; however, decided to honor the role of Omar Little from “The Wire”.
Little was a character based in the Baltimore region. He was nothing short of a stick-up artist throughout the show. Little was feared throughout the city and made a living by robbing local drug dealers. He often whistled a specific tune before ambushing his victims.

“Heard the sound of Omar whistling ‘Farmer In The Dell’ from the stadium while walking across the Ostend Street bridge to the Ravens opener and thought I’d lost my s—. It’s the little things that are gonna get me, I guess. But Michael gonna last,” wrote David Simon, the creator of “The Wire,” on Twitter.
The chance of Lamar Jackson winning his first victory over his “kryptonite” Patrick Mahomes didn’t excite and electrify the Raven fans. The sound of Omar’s famous whistle ringing throughout the M&T Bank Stadium probably got the job done.
During Washington’s tribute at the Emmys, she called Williams “a remarkably talented actor and a kind-hearted individual whose untimely departure deeply saddens us.” Adding, “I know you’re here because you wouldn’t miss this. Your excellence and artistry will endure. We love you.”
