Divorced. Beheaded. Live!
Six: The Musical on Broadway is releasing an original cast recording! While a Six: The Musical album already exists, it does not feature the Broadway performers. The first Six studio album was released in 2018 and featured the original cast from the limited run of the musical in the Arts Theatre of the West End.
The upcoming Broadway album will not, however, mimic this studio recording. Not “just for you tonight,” but immortalized in an album. It will instead feature a live recording of the Broadway cast’s opening night performance. The queens will be, “divorced, beheaded, live” on Spotify and Apple Music. Additionally, the album will include special features from the cast’s alternates to the six artists featured in the original cast, according to @sixbroadway on Instagram.
Her-Story of Six
Audiences across the globe have identified with the women of Six. The pop-princess depictions of Henry VIII’s six ex-wives were written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss. According to theatrical news source Theater Mania, Marlow and Moss met while they were students together at Cambridge University in England.
Furthermore, the first production was produced by the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017. Known for developing new works, Six played a month-long run at the festival before a 6 performance special engagement in London’s Arts Theatre. The production has since returned to London’s West End. After an ongoing run in the U.K., Six finally opened on Broadway in October 2021 where it remains running.
Don’t Lose Ur Head
Six has a mega fan base. The studio album currently available on Spotify has over one million monthly listeners. According to the official Six website, it is the second highest streamed musical theater album, behind Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton.
Nevertheless, the cult-following of Six has been relentlessly posting on social media and asking for a Broadway cast recording. Given the live-and-in-concert nature of the musical itself, the live album news has left fans screaming, crying, and throwing up.
What’s On The Album?
New music? @SixBroadway on Twitter has teased that the upcoming album is going to have 18 tracks. Therefore, fans rushed to Twitter to speculate what additional tracks will be a part of the album.
