Cleveland Browns Baker Mayfield wishes Odell Beckham Jr. (OBJ) the best in his endeavors going forward, per ESPN. The Cleveland Browns had an outstanding performance, their best of the season thus far, against the Cincinnati Bengals. They defeated the Bengals, 41-16, days after OBJ essentially forced his way out. Mayfield emphasized going forward his focus will remain on his current teammates.
“I genuinely wish him the best. My feelings remain the same,” Mayfield commented, just two days after the team revealed Beckham’s release. “On a personal level, he’s a close friend of mine. … However, my main concern is the guys in our locker room. I’m proud of how they stayed focused despite all the distractions this week and performed their duties. We’ll aim to build on this and keep improving.”
OBJ Vs. Browns Breakup
The breakup seemed to be inevitable, especially after Beckham’s father exposed Mayfield’s play to the masses. Hours before the Tuesday trade deadline, the video was released and featured comments discussing Mayfield’s inefficiencies and hurtful comments. On Wednesday, Beckham was excused from practice for several days which ultimately led to his release.
This Sunday, Mayfield completed 14 of 21 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns without any turnovers. Mayfield had a flawless quarterback rating of 158.3 until the third quarter, just before Browns’ star running back Nick Chubb scored a 70-yard touchdown run.
Nick Chubb broke one for 70-yard touchdown.

The Browns rattled off big play after big play throughout the game. This included Brown’s cornerback 99-yard pick-six and Mayfield’s 60-yard bomb to Donovan Peoples-Jones. This was the first time since 1967 the Browns produced a passing touchdown, rushing touchdown, and defensive touchdown of 60 plus yards all within the same game, per ESPN.
“We really needed that win. The entire team needed it, and they were aware of that. We played for each other,” Mayfield expressed. “I have complete trust in my teammates. When faced with adversity, no one hesitated. It was a challenging week, and I wouldn’t deny that. But I’m proud of these guys.”
