Deshaun Watson Traded To The Browns, $230 Million Guaranteed

Deshaun Watson, the former Houston Texans quarterback, has been traded to the Cleveland Browns. The trade consisted of firs-round picks in the 2022, 2023 and 2024 drafts. Not to mention, a 2023 third-round pick and 2024 fourth-round pick, reported ESPN  . The deal consists of the Browns signing Watson to a new five-year deal $230 million guaranteed contract.

No deal in NFL history has ever been constructed in this manner. One can only agree that Green Bay Packers quarterback has begun a trend throughout the league that will eventually regain the power to the players, instead of ownership. His latest blockbuster deal consists of $150.8 million over the next three years; however, he’s receiving $101 million fully guaranteed. One can assume this played a part in Watson’s latest contract. Watson’s the only NFL player to sign to that amount and have it all guaranteed. Not to mention, he may potentially is the first five to six games due to suspension from the NFL.

According to ESPN, Texans GM Nick Caserio made a statement on Friday. He thinks that trading Watson was the best decision for our organization as we continue to rebuild.”Our current focus is to bring in skilled players to complement the foundation we have built in the past 15 months, and this trade aligns with that strategy,” stated Caserio. “As we progress through the rest of the offseason, we are open to all opportunities that enhance our team and contribute to our goals.”

Logically, Watson’s been excited since he’s been moved out of Houston. He took no time to post about it via Instagram  .

What happens to Baker Mayfield now that Deshaun Watson has arrived?

While Watson seems to be very happy and satisfied, this leaves the current Browns quarterback in limbo. Mayfield wasn’t too excited to hear about the trade and naturally wants out of Cleveland. However, the big question remains: “Where does Baker go from here?”

While Mayfield may be considering his future plans, there are very limited spots that seem logical. The biggest landing spot appears to be the Indianapolis Colts, especially after trading away Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders. Another potential landing spot for Baker is the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Giants are young and rebuilding it may not be an ideal landing spot; however, it may be an opportunity to prove his critics wrong.
