El Chapo is going back behind bars, and this time for good.
After years of being a menace to society, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman will spend the rest of his life contemplating his bad decisions. That includes acting as the ringleader for Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel, torturing and killing countless people, money laundering, and willfully escaping prison twice.
It may come as shock, but El Chapo once escaped a Mexican maximum-security prison through the use of an underground tunnel dug for him. It was a scene straight out of a movie.
A Brooklyn in a federal courtroom delivered the life sentence to Mexican drug lord, El Chapo, on Wednesday. The sentence spells out a life sentence, plus 30 years. El Chapo is also blocked from applying for parole
In addition, he must give back $12.6 billion to the government to make up for all the dirty money he made from illegal activity, reports TMZ.
Throughout the trial, Chapo and his defense attorney claim he was treated unfairly. Mostly because of the jury selection.
“I want to share that since I’ll be sent to a jail where my name will fade away, I want to express: There hasn’t been fairness here.”
He continues:
“I drink dirty water, no fresh air or sunlight, and the air that’s pumped in hurts my ears and throat. To sleep, I put toilet paper in my ears. My wife can’t visit, and I can’t embrace my daughters. This has been continuous psychological and emotional torture.”
“My case was tainted, and I was denied a fair trial while the world watched. What transpired here in the U.S. isn’t any better than corruption in other countries.”
Present at his trial was his wife Emma Coronel. The two-thumbs-up each other as El Chapo was removed from the courtroom.
He will soon be transported to a supermax federal facility in Florence, Colorado.
