    H.E.R. To Star The Color Purple Musical Film Adaptation

    H.E.R. is a music sensation who has captivated fans with her soulful voice. Fans of The Color Purple will be thrilled to hear that she will be starring in the movie adaptation of the beloved musical. This will mark her first foray into acting, showcasing her incredible talent as a Bay Area native.

    According to The Hollywood Reporter, H.E.R. is in the final stages of negotiations to secure her role in the upcoming musical adaptation. Inside reports reveal that the “Could’ve Been” artist will play Mary “Squeak” Agnes. The character embodies a waitress yearning to jump start her singing career. That role is clearly right up H.E.R.’s alley. Who knows, this may be another award-winning performance for her.

    Her Work in a Film

    The 24-year-old singer recently celebrated the success of “Fight for You,” an original song she wrote for Judas and The Black Messiah. She won the Oscar for Best Song at the Academy Awards in April.

    The Songwriter 

    Similar to her contribution to Judas and The Black Messiah, H.E.R. wants to put her pen skills to work for the remake. Moreover, H.E.R. is working closely with directors to create an original song for the film’s musical score. 

    Also, the film is still in pre-production and casting is taking place to fill various roles. The musical will be released during the Christmas season in December 2023.
