Jay-Z and Will Smith are about to make camping cool in the hood.
These two men are going in on an investment together, and it includes enjoying the great outdoors. Page Six got the scoop that Will Smith and Jay-Z are going to be investing some of their Hollywood dollars into the camping industry. They’ll start with Hipcamp.
Hipcamp declares itself to be an app that helps people find a place to pitch a tent. It’s similar to Airbnb.
Jay and Will both invested through their individual companies. Jay-Z is investing through his Marcy Venture Partners, and Will is going to be getting help through his Dreamers VC fund.
Page Six says that Hipcamp has supposedly raised at least $25 million from successful fundraising campaigns.
Meaning camping is about to take on a new meaning. With investors such as Jay-Z and Will Smith behind Hipcamp, there might be a renewed version of what it means to live life the rigid way. It might actually seem more appealing to those of us who call ourselves city slickers.
Either way, anything Jay touches turns to gold, so Hipcamp can expect to become a major name soon.
The two also joined forces on a new venture. They’ll be working together on a new series idea called Women Of The Movement. The series will touch on the civil right’s movement from the perspective of women. They apparently already have Emmett Till’s mother as one of the women to help recount what it was like.
