If you’re a fan of Taylor Swift’s music, you probably know her infamous 2009 VMAs interruption by Kanye West. It’s a moment that will surely go down in pop culture history. Most people were left confused when Ye grabbed the mic from Swift during her acceptance speech for Best Female Video.
Taylor’s response to Taylor’s situation
Swift’s ex-boyfriend Taylor Lautner was right there to witness the infamous event. The Twilight star is opening up about it on his new podcast. He reflected on the incident and admitted that he actually thought it was skit.
On the show, he recalled the moment when Swift was in the middle of accepting her award for Best Female Video for her ‘You Belong With Me’ promo. Kanye West jumped on stage to interrupt her and create that unforgettably embarrassing moment. He joked that he wasn’t sure what was going on and that he thought it was a “rehearsed skit.”
When asked which moment in his career he would like to revisit if he could, the Twilight actor named the event as his top pick.
“I’d love to go back to the 2009 VMAs where I presented Taylor Swift with an award and Kanye West jumped up on stage, but then I was so unaware that it wasn’t a skit,”
The Sharkboy and Lavagirl star revealed this on the episode of the podcast that he co-hosts with his wife, Tay Dome.
Lautner even recreated the event on his show, using mannequins representing Swift and West to see how things would have gone had he stepped in. He then threw some karate punches and backflips before punching off the head of a mannequin version of Ye. After nearly kissing one of the mannequins, he tossed it out of the theater.
What do you think?
Was Kanye’s interruption of Taylor Swift at the VMAs rigged? Did Swift deserve to get interrupted? Are the winners of these award shows rigged? Are the nominations racially driven? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
