He’s even played a pivotal role in shaping Lupe Fiasco’s career. Not to mention, the two have collaborated on a few songs. By both men having respect for one another’s music, it came as a surprise that Fiasco gave a harsh criticism of Hov’s verse on DJ Khaled’s “God Did.” Clearly, he’s not a fan of the record.

During a recent interview with HipHopDX, Lupe Fiasco gave his honest opinion about Jay-Z’s verse on DJ Khaled’s “God Did.” Though, rather than just giving a simple answer, the lyricist gave a detailed critique of Hov’s bars on the record. According to Fiasco, there’s several different versions of the rap legend. Having studied Hov’s music for years, Fiasco compares two sides of Jay-Z; the businessman and the rapper. Ultimately, Fiasco explained that Jay-Z as the businessman did a great job on the song due primarily to his success.

However, his rapper alter-ego fell short. “But from the rapper side, no, it’s not his best verse from a rapper rapping rap, rappity rap rap JAY-Z. No way. The first verse on “Marcy Me” from 4:44, it doesn’t touch that,” Fiasco said during the interview. The “Superstar” rapper referred to Hov’s 2017 studio album that received a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. Lupe Fiasco is a die-hard fan of Jay-Z.

Clearly, Lupe Fiasco knows his stuff. The lyricist isn’t just our average fan of the great Jay-Z, though. He tells HipHopDX that he’s “a child” of Hov. In further explanations, Fiasco shared that he “learned how to rap by rapping over Jay-Z records.” In fact, he practically worships Hov to the point where everytime a Jay-Z song comes on, he’ll start rapping. That’s some serious dedication to the mogul rap legend.f
