According to Sneaker News, the “The initial colorway, known as ‘Day One,’ is scheduled to be released in April 2023.” Currently, Morant is the newest member of the Nike Basketball family and will be joining a great company. In fact, the last time a new member joined the Nike family was Paul George in 2017. Nike and star PG Kyrie Irving parted ways earlier this year, however it appears that Morant is filling in for Irving at an ideal time.
In 2019, Morant signed with Nike, however nothing was released. This leaves many to believe the show was in the works for approximately two years.
What’s The Story Behind Ja Morant’s New Sneakers?
The Ja 1’s are designed with an “underdog” ethos due to his background. Prior to Morant’s stardom, he wasn’t highly recruited and was discovered serendipitously by Murray State assistant coach James Kane. In spite of being favored, Morant’s dedication to the game allowed him to become who he is today. During the March Madness tournament, he showed out and made himself highly wanted and sought out.
Within years, he’s officially become not only a superstar but a perennial MVP candidate. According to Nike, Morant is their first “Gen-Z athlete”. The 2019 draft class is loaded and wouldn’t be surprised if this sneaker deal aligns with stars like Luca Doncic, Zion Williams, Trae Young, and more.
