A handful of cities have started naming landmarks and city streets after artists that have inspired them.
Most recently, Missy Elliot had a street named in her hometown of Portsmouth, VA. Even better, the city’s mayor handed her the keys to the city. Talk about dedication.

It’s one thing to win a handful of MTV and Grammy awards. However, an artist reaches an entirely new level of fame when their own hometown names a street after them.
Recently, Missy Elliot received a huge award from her hometown of Portsmouth, VA.
This week, city leaders and community members renamed a city street after the five-time award-winning Grammy artist. This past summer, city council members voted to rename a portion of McLean Street to “Missy Elliott Boulevard.”
Furthermore, Event Organizer Erin Carter was the brains behind renaming the street after Elliot. Currently, the name change has already gone live on Google Maps.
Moreover, the street location will be home to Victory Crossing Shopping Center and Tidewater Community College. Missy Elliot is having an excellent start to her week.

Renaming a city street wasn’t the only way her hometown honored her. City Council members also hosted a parade and ceremony in Missy Elliot’s honor.
Further details revealed yesterday’s festivities started at Missy Elliot’s old stomping ground, Manor High School, at 3:30 pm.
Furthermore, Governor Glenn Youngkin and Congressman Bobby Scott attended the ceremony and shouted nothing but praises at the artist. Additionally, Portsmouth’s Mayor Shannon Glover presented Missy Elliot with the keys to the city.
Many die-hard fans, including other Virginia-born rappers such as Pusha T, Trey Songz, and Timbaland, attended the event.
