Merely a year following her creation of Julia Fox’s trending raccoon eyes, Monet X Change now presents the azure iteration of Doja Cat’s Schiaparelli-inspired crystal appearance.
Doja Cat is a fashion risk taker who has already blown the Internet up with pretty spectacular looks at Paris Fashion Week. This week, she took to the Schiaparelli couture show wearing a head-to-toe red ensemble adorned from neck to toe in over 30,000 fire-engine red Swarovski crystals.
Famed makeup artist Pat McGrath was behind the look, which took four hours and 58 minutes to complete. In her Instagram caption, McGrath expressed, “Collaborating with the exceptionally talented Doja Cat on the enchanting ‘Doka’s Inferno’ ensemble was an absolute honor. Adorned with more than 30,000 meticulously applied Swarovski Crystals, it truly became a masterpiece.” I am so proud of Doja for her patience and commitment to serving a truly inspiring look.”
Besides the custom red Schiaparelli dress, Doja Cat also donned a red silk bustier and skirt with lacquered wooden beads. Her boots, which she wore underneath her dress, also had trompe l’oeil designs.
The look, dubbed “Doka’s Inferno” on social media, was a nod to the book, Inferno, which Italian poet Dante Alighieri wrote in 14th century Florence. It was designed by Schiaparelli’s creative director Daniel Roseberry, who translated the three beasts that Dante encounters — leopard, lion, and she-wolf — into a collection of three-dimensional garments with (extremely convincing) fake taxidermy heads.
