Many people are looking forward to this upcoming season to see how rookie QB Mac Jones develops. All things considered, Jones is definitely off to a great start. Many of his teammates have noticed Mac Jones’ loss in weight and he seems to be moving more nimble than last year. His close friend, WR Kendrick Bourne, speaks highly of his transformation in the first couple of days of OTA
“Kendrick Bourne said on Monday that he’s in great shape.” He looks really good. His stomach is gone.
“He’s in much better shape now as a rookie, dominating in conditioning. It’s great to see.”
Last season, with the New England Patriots, he was taken in the 2021 15th overall draft pick from Alabama University. He managed to start every game of his rookie season and he plans to follow that sentiment going into 2022. Jones began trying to clean up his diet and changing his regiment. A lot like former Patriot QB Tom Brady did years ago to extend his career several years.
“I improved my eating habits,” said Mike Reiss in an ESPN report. “This offseason, I’ve gained valuable knowledge about nutrition, sleep, and overall wellness.
“At the same time, I must maintain my weight and withstand tackles. Every player needs to find the right balance. I have reduced my body fat and will have an opportunity to build muscle before the season begins to better withstand impacts.”
Mac Jones Expectations for 2022
He’s preparing mentally for this upcoming season without having one of the best OCs in the NFL, Josh McDaniels. He departed to become the HC of the Las Vegas Raiders. It seems going forward, Patriots HC Bill Belichick will take the reigns or be involved more heavily than he once was. Potentially, former HC of the New York Giants Joe Judge will primarily train with the QBs and play heavily in the offense, as well.
“It’s not up to me, and there’s no rush for that. For now, it’s about us players coming together and finding common ground,” Jones stated. “Ultimately, it’s about us, the team, and we’re enthusiastic about progressing together and benefiting from the guidance of our coaches.”
“Obviously he’s a great defensive mind, but he also has great offensive knowledge,” Jones continued.
All this to say, Jones may have a bit of adjusting to do throughout the offense. He transformed his body to be able to do that. While running isn’t Jones’s strong suit, it’s a possibility that Jones may be asked to take off a few plays a game to help diversify the Patriots’ offense.
Only time will tell what’s in store for the New England Patriots’ Mac Jones and his stats this season.
