Nicki Minaj Shockingly Ditches “Starships”: “I Hate It, It’s a Stupid Song”

Nicki Minaj Surprisingly Abandons ‘Starships’: Expresses Dislike and Calls It a ‘Senseless Song’

Nicki Minaj has publicly expressed her disdain for her hit song ‘Starships.’ The revelation came during her New Year’s Eve performance at the famous Miami nightclub, E11EVEN. As she began to perform ‘Starships,’ she abruptly stopped, telling the audience,

“I don’t perform that song no more, you all. I don’t like it, what do you all want me to do? Stupid song.”

This isn’t the first time Minaj has voiced her dislike for the song. In a 2020 interview with Pollstar Live, she stated,

“I hate ‘Starships,’ I mean ew, ‘Starships?’ I’m like, ‘Why did I do that?’ I think that every time I hear it.”

While she didn’t specify the exact reasons for her dislike, it’s clear that she regrets recording it.

Despite the unexpected twist in her performance, Minaj managed to keep her energy high. She pivoted to another fan-favorite, “Super Bass”. The event was part of the New Year’s Eve 2024 celebration at E11EVEN, featuring special guest DJ Irie and a late-night set by DJ Vice. It was a night of music and celebration, even with the surprising turn of events.

In other news, Minaj’s “Pink Friday 2” album faced delays before its release. The album was initially announced on June 5, 2023, with a release date of October 20, 2023. However, the release was delayed to November 17 due to some exciting news that Minaj promised to share with her fans. A second delay occurred because her friend and fellow rapper Lil Wayne released an album, “Welcome to Collegrove,” with 2 Chainz on November 17. The album was finally released on December 8, which was also Minaj’s birthday.

Throughout these delays, Minaj assured her fans that the wait would be well worth it. She also announced plans for a “Pink Friday 2” tour next year. The album features collaborations with several artists. They include J. Cole, Lil Wayne, Tate Kobang, Drake, Lourdiz, Lil Uzi Vert, Future, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, 50 Cent, Monica, and Keyshia Cole. These collaborations contributed to the diverse sound and success of “Pink Friday 2”.

While Minaj’s dislike for ‘Starships’ may surprise many, it’s a reminder of the complex relationship artists can have with their work. It also highlights Minaj’s commitment to her creative process and her decision to cater to her fan base by delivering solid lyrics. As we look forward to more music from Minaj, one thing is sure – she’s not afraid to speak her mind, and her fans love her.
