Payless Tricks Customers Into Paying Hundreds for Cheap Shoes

My mama used to stay taking me to Payless to buy school shoes. But she ain’t never pay more than $30.

The shoe retailer, set up a fake pop-up shop, where they disguised themselves as Palessi. They opened up shop in Los Angeles, and invited tons of social media influencers to the event. Nearly 3,000 pairs of shoes went flying off the shelves.

Customers went on record saying, “I can tell it was made of high class material.” Shoppers paid top notch dollars for the shoes, some of the shoes being sold for more than $500.

Customers didn’t know the truth until after they had checked out. But don’t worry…they were offered their money back.

The prank is a part of Payless‘ new social experiment. The ad company responsible for helping them said that Payless “wanted to push the social experiment genre to new extremes, while simultaneously using it to make a cultural statement.”

Payless posted the prank on their Instagram social account.

It just goes to show that you don’t have to pay more for nice shoes.
