Rihanna is ride or die.
If you’ll recall, Rihanna turned down the NFL’s offer to perform at the Super Bowl 53 halftime show. At the time, it may have seemed crazy, because who in their right mind would decline such prominent exposure. However, for Rihanna it wasn’t a crazy decision at all. It was the right decision.
In an interview she did with Vogue, she details why she turned down such a big offer, reports TMZ.
“I couldn’t dare do that. For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler.”
Her reason is that she couldn’t bear to see herself as a sellout. By turning down the opportunity, it provided her a chance to show her support of Colin Kaepernick– who was, and still is, being shunned by the organization for his stance on racial inequality and justice.
Rihanna continues with her reason below.
“There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to goand be of service to them in any way.”
After declining to accept the NFL’s offer, they were able to get Marron 5 and Travis Scott to perform instead. And this year, they’re expecting to have Shakira and JLo headline the halftime performances, with the help of Jay-Z.
Which leaves us to ask…is Jay-Z a sellout?
