The Texas rapper, Tay K, was sentenced to 55 years in orange for the capital murder of a 21-year-old male, with an additional 30 and 13 years for aggravated robbery. The deadly home invasion took place in 2016, says Page Six. Tay K capital murder charge will surely send a message that the crime isn’t worth it.
He got his 55-year sentence on Tuesday by a Tarrant County jury, which apparently only took three hours to deliberate. Prosecutors say that Tay K was the person who put together the 2016 robbery, however, he didn’t pull the trigger. Tay committed the crime alongside six other accomplices.
According to a witness at the crime scene, Tay K and his buddies were looking to rob the victim of drugs and money. But the victim didn’t have either of the things, so an accomplice shot him.
During the trial, the victim’s family were present. They were happy to have the rapper finally face his fate for taking the life of their son, Ethan Walker. Walker’s father, Richard, lent his opinion on the sentencing.
“Every lyric to ‘The Race’ is stained with my son’s blood. Every ‘free Tay-K’ T-shirt that was ever sold has my son’s blood on it.”
Tay K famously put out his “The Race” song in 2017, which quickly became a Billboard Hot 100 song. The song spoke about going on the run from the police, and robbing and shooting people.
The rapper, whose real name is Taymor McIntyre, was taken back to Tarrant County Jail on Tuesday, and will later be transferred to state prison.
He is also facing charges for the capital murder of a man in San Antonio. He will be eligible for parole after serving half his sentencing.
