Since his breakout record “Old Town Road” dropped back in 2019, Lil Nas X has quickly earned his star status. Everything from his platform heels, his catchy tracks and even his choreography, has turned him into a mega Hollywood star. For a while, it seemed like nothing could stop the rapper. That is until the 2022 BET Awards didn’t nominate him for any of their categories. With the nominees for the 2022 VMAs out, the award show made sure not to make the same mistake.
Lil Nas X Up For 7 Nominations
Lil Nas X has completely dominated the music industry. That notion became even more apparent when the 2022 VMAs released their nominees list. According to the award show page and Twitter, the rapper has secured 7 nominations in several categories. Furthermore, the young rapper has received nominations for Artist Of The Year, Video Of The Year, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, Best Visual Effects, and Best Choreography. His domination knows no bounds. Basically, he’s already won over the award show.
Lil Nas X’s nomination list is a big turn around from the 2022 BET Awards. Of course, Lil Nas X spoke out about the awards show, claiming that they refused to include him because he identifies as a proud, gay Black man. Though, they did add Billy Porter’s Ballroom dance performance to the roster. Nonetheless, X still said a few choice words about the award show in his “Late To The Party” track featuring Youngboy Never Broke Again. Clearly, he’s no longer a fan of the award’s show.
Jack Harlow & Kendrick Lamar Also Scored Big
The 2022 VMAs may have showed Lil Nas X some love this year, but they also handed out 7 nominations to Jack Harlow and Kendrick Lamar. With all three artist tied, it’s hard to say who will win in the end. Furthermore, Doja Cat and Harry Styles fall right behind the three heavyweights, nabbing 6 nominations. It seems like the VMAs have really outdid themselves this year.
Music aficionados can expect to catch all the action on August 28 at 8pm. The VMAs will air on several networks such as on MTV, the CW, BET, BET Her, CMT, Comedy Central, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TVLand, and VH1. Don’t miss TV’s next biggest music night.
