Return to Gotham: Fear Toxin
It appears the driving force for season three is a return to Gotham City. Meanwhile, it signals the return of a sleu of familiar faces. Jason todd who may have returned to Gotham on his own accord after falling out with the Titans, is investigating a release of the fear toxin. During the the trailer, Scarecrow (vincent kartheiser) is comitted to Arkham Asylum.
Obviously, the capture of Scarecrow led others to belive that the fear toxin was locked away. Instead, it appears this toxin will be altered to become the Joker toxin.
Upon his investigation, Jason Todd enters an abandoned amusement park in Gotham. There, he finds a Jokified dead body tied up and showcasing the signature smile that comes from the Joker toxin. Then, the trailer closes with a crackling laugh that can be from none only than Joker, himself.
Death in the family
“This is Gotham. The city creates a unique breed of criminals. People perish here – people like us.”
-Dick Grayson speaks in voice over.
For those familiar with Death in the Family storyline, this appears to be Dc Universe’s version of that. Joker meeting Jason Todd is a pivotable moment in which Robin becomes Red hood. Red Hood is a character rooted in vengence and seeks out criminals and disposes them, especially mob members.
Jay lycuro was casted as Tim drake who will take the mantle after Jason Todd’s disappearance. Likewise, he becomes the new Robin, Batman’s sidekick. Ultimately abandoned yet again, Robin develops a new identity as Red Hood. As Red Hood, he will be a force that the titans and Batman will have to deal with as the consequences of their actions take fold.
What to expect for Season 3
When Season 2 ended, viewers saw a post credit scene for Blackfire, Starfire’s sister. Blackfire wants the throne. Starfire, uninterested in taking the mantle, but also understanding that her sister shouldn’t have the throne comes into conflict with her. Blackfire’s emergence in season 3 will show her attempts as the big bad, to take down her sister and removing her claim to the throne. Additionally, Raven’s power is much stronger than the previous two seasons.
Jason Todd’s Character Development
“Regarding Jason Todd’s relationship with the Titans, they shattered his heart in
season 2.”
Showrunner Greg Walker spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the consequences of the end of season 2 with Jason Todd. Priorly, Jason todd was betrayed by Rose, whom he loved. Robin number two was also ostracised by the titans who didn’t agree with his tactics. If you remember, Todd appeared to love the violent part of handling criminals too much and couldn’t find his fit with the Titans.
“There is a real clear departure when they see him last. He’s been cast away. The idea of “what goes around comes around” is true on our show.
The Best Season of DC’s Titans, Yet!
Furthermore, Alan Ritchson talk to Collider about season three’s focus and action packed storytelling.
“everybody has figured out what we want to focus on and who we wanna tell the story through. It’s a little more focused than it has been, and its working really well. It’s the best season yet, by far.”
Also present in season 3 is a post Killing Joke, Barbara Gordon (Former Batgirl) in a wheelchair (Savannah Welch) as an emerging Oracle. Dc’s Titans drops on August 12 on HBO Max the new home for DC Universe Exclusive Content. Initially, the first three episodes will drop that day.
