Things are once again getting heated between the Trump Administration and NBA players. On Thursday, two white house officials condemned the athletes – following their remarks, President Trump took a jab at the NBA organization and players, “They’ve become like a political organization, and that’s not a good thing. I don’t think that’s a good thing for sports or for the country.”
After the recent shooting of unarmed Wisconsin native, Jacob Blake at the hands of law enforcement – individuals across the nation are once again voicing their frustrations in a series of demonstrations. Among those individuals, were athletes from both the NBA and WNBA teams.
Recently, the Milwaukee Bucks showed their support of the #BlackLivesMatter movement by initiating a boycott when they refused to take the floor opposite the Orlando Magics for Game 5 in their series playoffs. Igniting a league-wide strike, other teams such as; the Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers followed suit. A few days later, it was announced that the games would be postponed.
Los Angeles Laker player, Lebron James later tweeting, “F— THIS MAN!!!! WE DEMAND CHANGE. SICK OF IT.”
For those who can recall, this isn’t the first time, James has used his platform to address politics. In 2018, Fox News journalist, Laura Ingraham was dragged for her comments towards Lebron saying, “It’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid $100 million a year to bounce a ball. Keep the political comments to yourself. Just shut up and dribble.”
As of today, Lebron or any other players has yet to issue a statement or comment on President Trump’s remarks. Do you think that the Trump took a jab at the NBA? What do you think will be their reaction? Stay tuned to see how this will play out. Feel free to tell us your thoughts in the comment section below.
