Vevo has today released Lupe Fiasco’s live video for “Mural Jr.” with a very special performance shot under the Manhattan side of the Williamsburg Bridge. “Mural Jr.” is part of Vevo’s performance series that helps artists to connect with audiences in a different way with intimate, stripped-down videos. By seeing the music through this different prism, audiences are allowed a rare, intimate look at their creative vision.
“Mural Jr.” is the closing track of Fiasco’s September 2018 album DROGAS Wave. Praised as his “most ambitious and uncompromising album yet”, and includes features from Damian Marley, Nikki Jean and more. Fiasco explained to COMPLEX that “Drogas Wave is based on a story about a group of slaves that jumped off of a slave ship transporting them from Africa. The slaves did not drown, and instead somehow managed to live under the sea. They spent the rest of their underwater existence sinking slave ships. ‘Drogas’ is the Spanish word for drugs. I made it an acronym which stands for ‘Don’t Ruin Us God Said.’” “Mural Jr.” in particular is described as an example of the “sprawling lyricism we have come to expect from the 36-year-old verbal technician” (DJBooth). Lupe Fiasco’s DROGAS Wave is out now on all streaming services. Keep up with exclusive content from artists all over the world on youtube.com/VEVO.
