Whoopi Goldberg Faces Backlash, Suspension Over Holocaust Comments

    Goldberg Suspended From ABC

Whoopi Goldberg has put herself in a bit of trouble with her choice of words and will now not be appearing on The View in the upcoming weeks. Her stance on the Holocaust was unacceptable, and now she faces the consequences.

In a statement released from ABC President Kim Godwin, she apologized for the comments from Goldberg and that they were “misinformed, upsetting, and hurtful.” While her actions are considered, ABC recognized that her approach was not the best intention. Godwin states, “I have made the decision to suspend Whoopi from “The View” for two weeks effectively immediately.”

“I have requested her to take time for self-reflection and understanding the consequences of her remarks,” Godwin states. “ABC News stands united with our Jewish colleagues, friends, and communities, showing our support.”

“Not about race, about man’s inhumanity.”

Godwin’s statement was public the day after the show aired Monday, Jan. 31, and as the news began to unfold, many could not believe what Goldberg had to say. The Ghost star said that the Holocaust was “not about race” during a discussion and more so “about man’s inhumanity to man.”

Shortly after, the 66-year-old went onto Twitter to resolve the issue, but that was not enough for many.

I should have acknowledged that it is both about race and man’s inhumanity to man,” she admits. Goldberg also mentions Jonathan Greenblatt from the Anti-Defamation League, who explains that the Holocaust involved the Nazis systematically eradicating the Jewish people, whom they regarded as an inferior race. She stands corrected.

To conclude, the star of The View expresses unwavering support for the Jewish people worldwide and apologizes for the pain she has caused.

    Goldberg Apologizes For Her Efforts

While that was already enough chaos, Goldberg addressed the matter during her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and that it was not her intention to hurt anyone. She does not recognize the platform she has and, at times, uses that to her best advantage.

The Sister Act star went on The View Tuesday to formally apologize, and she acknowledged the information she now has obtained has given her a better understanding of the subject. She shares that the Holocaust “is indeed about race, [Adolf] Hitler and the Nazis considered Jews to be an inferior race.”

While time can only heal, Whoopi Goldberg did an impactful thing that hurt many people. The network recognized her behavior and stood behind what’s right from wrong.
