Rapper 6ix9ine, whose legal name is Daniel Hernandez, is in trouble with the law once more. The rapper was arrested on October 29, 2024, for violation of terms of his supervised release: traveling to Las Vegas without permission, failing to show up for a required drug test, and testing positive for methamphetamine-a result he claims was a false positive driven by his prescription for Adderall.
Currently, 6ix9ine is detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Sunset Park, Brooklyn until his next court hearing on November 12th. Interestingly, he’s sharing the facility with high-profile detainees Sean “Diddy” Combs and FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, both facing their own serious legal challenges.
The arrest came after 6ix9ine failed to adhere to at least a few conditions of his supervised release, of which he has been under since early release from prison in 2020. His early release followed being an informant in a high-profile case against the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang.
6ix9ine’s attorney, Lance Lazzaro, described the positive test results as some kind of mix-up; his client was taking Adderall – a prescription medication that contains methamphetamine. Tekashi himself insists he never used drugs and attributed the positive test results to his prescription medication.
6ix9ine’s legal problems are not new. He was arrested in 2018 on suspicion of racketeering and conspiracy to commit murder, in relation to his activities with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods. Tekashi cooperated with the authorities, testifying against fellow gang members; this eventually led to a reduced sentence and an early release in 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns.
His supervised release has been anything but smooth, with several legal issues cropping up, including arrests for domestic violence and assault allegations.
Despite all the legal issues, 6ix9ine has still been extremely involved with music and being out there in the public eye. An aggressive rapper and somebody well known for stirrers, he started to notice with hits such as “Gummo” and a mixtape debut with Day69. Dummy Boy, from 2018, had commercial success even though the reviews were not exactly the best. In 2023, he released another album called Leyenda Viva, which he has dubbed as a reggaeton album.
From chart-toppers to controversies making headlines, his career has seen highs and lows. While the music still appeals to his fans, his actions have also received considerable criticism, particularly within the hip-hop community.
As for the news of the latest arrest, 6ix9ine received a polarized reaction from the public, where some stick by him and others criticise him for his back-to-back run-ins with the law. Of course, adding to that intrigue would be the fact that he is also in the same facility as Diddy and Sam Bankman-Fried.
Given that the court is on November 12th, it means the whole world will be looking to see what happens next in the city Metropolitan Detention Center as to the fate of 6ix9ine, Diddy, and Sam Bankman-Fried. Preparing 6ix9ine to move past this legal test, adding to his rollercoaster of a journey.
