A Few Days Ago: Quan Revealed He’s Ready to Mend Things with Thug

Rich Homie Quan recently expressed a desire to reconcile with Young Thug just days before his tragic passing on September 5, 2024. This revelation came during an interview in which Quan shared his thoughts on their complicated relationship: “I don’t know what the future holds, man. I’m trying to have a conversation with him, and it’ll go from there.” Thus, he left high hopes for the reunion of the two influential artists.

Quan revealed that he was open to conversing with Thug, hinting at releasing more music together.

“We do have a lot of unreleased music. But who knows what the future holds? I’m willing to have a conversation, and it’ll start from there,” Quan said.

Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug have a very elongated history of making hits together. Perhaps their biggest hit to date is the 2014 single “Lifestyle,” which greatly impacted both men’s careers. The catchy hook of the song and the fluent styles meshed into a great combination of the two fitting each other: Quan’s melodic flow fit like a glove with Thug’s different delivery, creating a catchy sound that made audiences all go crazy.

Their collaboration wasn’t confined to “Lifestyle.” They even collaborated on songs like Get the Bag” and “I Got It,” showing the duo’s real musical chemistry. However, there have been tests of friendship in recent years: several misunderstandings and public disputes. At one point, Young Thug was hurt by Quan’s comments during his performance. Back then, neither artist mentioned animosity between them.

Quan’s untimely death sent shockwaves across the hip-hop community. Quan was pronounced dead by the Fulton Country Medical Examiner when his girlfriend found him unresponsive in his home. In outpourings of grief, fans and fellow artists alike took to social media to remember and pay tribute to him. Influential celebrities such as Jacquees and Playboi Carti shared emojis of sadness and respect regarding Quan and vowed the things that he had done to the genre.

In his final moments, Quan shared a poignant message on Instagram. He said, “Vision clear even through the BS,” and attached a picture of himself with glasses on. To many, this was his reflection on his life and how blind he felt all his life, with a vision now clear in the middle of chaos.

The news of Quan’s death has led to an outpouring of tributes from the hip-hop community. Fellow artists like 2 Chainz, Quavo, Megan Thee Stallion, and GloRilla have shared their condolences on social media. “RIP to one of the best,” Megan Thee Stallion wrote on her Instagram Story.

Born Dequantes Devontay Lamar on October 4, 1990, Quan has made his mark in the music scene with catchy, emotional lyrics. He rose to fame in 2013 when his single “Type of Way” peaked at number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100. Quan has grown in reputation for mixing rap with melodic flows and has joined the ranks of more popular artists coming out of Atlanta, such as Young Thug and Future.

His legal issues and health problems didn’t prevent Quan from making his art. Much of his work was directly inspired by personal experiences, so he continued to create music that would please his fans. Even his mixtape “Still Goin’ In (Reloaded)” made it on Rolling Stone’s best mixtapes of 2013, sealing his reputation as a talented artist.

The hip-hop community, due to the tragedy of losing Rich Homie Quan, recalls the impacts of his music and collaborations. His fans are left just reflecting on his contributions to the genre and the possibility of having a restored friendship with Young Thug, one that would have healed old hurts.
