Adorable Baby Hippo Moo Deng Gets His Own Live Feed: Watch 24/7

Meet Moo Deng, a lovable pygmy hippopotamus born in 2019 at Khao Kheow Open Zoo, Thailand, and an instant global internet sensation. Moo Deng fairly captures the hearts of millions over his charismatic and playful nature. In light of her highly growing fanbase and a special request by one of her most devoted fans, Fletcher, they have now decided to turn on a 24/7 livestream of the zoo, and they will permit viewership at any moment to see what this little cute hippo is getting up to.

A live stream, expected to go live this week, will expose fans to the everyday activities of Moo Deng 24/7. The zoo seemingly noted how much interest she was receiving online videos just went viral, with people from all corners of the globe asking for more. Moo Deng’s fan base quite literally couldn’t get enough, so the zoo did what any good caretaker would: give the people what they wanted- endless Moo Deng content!

Despite her young age and frequent naps, there are periods in the day when Moo Deng is more active. The best time to get her on the go would be every morning between 8:00 and 10:00 A.M. and in the afternoon between 2:00 and 3:00 P.M. since one can see her playing or having meals with mom during this period. This opens a very good window for viewing her playful interactions and bringing out her inquisitive personality.

Moo Deng became an overnight sensation when zookeeper Atthapon Nundee created social media accounts for the young hippo and posted pictures and videos of her. Her cute yet chaotic behavior quickly caught the internet’s attention, and soon after, her nickname “bouncy pork” became a fitting title for her energetic antics. The zoo has even launched Moo Deng-themed merchandise, including shirts and pants, which will be available by the end of this month.

This viral fame has also seriously translated into the number of visitors to the zoo. From the previous average of 800 people per day during the weekdays, the Khao Kheow Open Zoo now welcomes more than 4,000 visitors. The numbers shot up from 3,000 during weekends to over 10,000. The strength of social media can be felt to the fullest here as Moo Deng continues his run across and physical attraction.

To face these challenges, the zoo has devised a number of protection measures for Moo Deng and control of visitor traffic since its arrival. For example, it allows only five-minute views of her enclosure with a maximum of 50 people per group on weekends. In addition, security cameras have been installed to keep watch on Moo Deng and their fellow pygmy hippos.

While the zoo is basking in all the fame that Meng-Deng has brought, one thing to consider is that she does not exist just for entertainment. The live stream is purposed for a higher cause- to raise awareness about hippo conservation. Pygmy hippos are listed as a vulnerable species, with their habitats shrinking due to human activities in Africa. Allowing people a peek into Meng-Deng’s world, Khao Kheow Open Zoo hopes to further a deeper understanding of the species and inspire protection for them.

Equally amusing and instructive, the live stream captures the natural behaviors of hippos in safety while teaching about their social structures, ways of communicating, and care requirements. This is a chance to observe up close a part of hippo life that few will ever see. To younger audiences, it is an interactive lesson in the lives of animals and conservation concerns.
