According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, Smith exchanged videos showing children as young as infants. One of these, given by the co-conspirator Caba to him, showed a 10-year-old child who was bound and raped. She also had scores of other videos containing child pornography housed in his Manhattan apartment.
The charge against Austin Wolf has made cameo appearances in the media, given the seriousness of the charges leveled against him and his notoriety in pornography. According to reports, Wolf must appear before a Manhattan federal court judge on fraud charges.
Claims substantiated the charges against Austin Wolf by pointing out that, using the Telegram messaging app, he sent and received hundreds of videos of child sexual abuse. Upon the seizure of his co-conspirator’s phone, the FBI raided the Manhattan apartment of Wolf. Agents retrieved an SD card containing several hundred videos of child pornography, including violent sexual battery against children as young as infants, some of which resulted from this search.
According to a statement from Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, “As alleged, Justin Heath Smith received and distributed hundreds of recordings containing child pornography, including a ghastly video showing a young child bound, beaten, and raped.” Williams said the investigation into Smith’s activities is still active and appealed for any information on the acts to be given to the FBI.
FBI Assistant Director in Charge James Smith had much to say about the heinous nature of child sexual abuse:
“Let me be clear: those who distribute images of child sexual abuse preying upon the most vulnerable in our society. Every image is a crime scene, leaving permanent scars on innocent victims.” Smith attempted to quell citizen fears by letting them know that the FBI would not stop until it brought these predators to justice—behind bars—to face their actions.
With these charges, Wolf now has severe legal ramifications hanging over his head if he is convicted. He was charged with the distribution and receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography. The charge for distribution and receipt carries a minimum sentence of five years and a maximum sentence of 20 years, while the charge for possession carries a possible 10-year prison sentence.
The FBI is still investigating Austin Wolf and appealed for anybody with additional information to contact them. News of Wolf’s arrest erupted in an angry response on social media, where netizens had been crying out for further investigation into his activities and concern over the potential continuous offenses by his hand.
The arrest of Austin Wolf has again brought to the forefront of people’s minds an awareness of child pornography and exploitation. There were hundreds of reactions from people and organizations, outraged and concerned about the very heinous nature of such crimes, calling for further investigations regarding Austin Wolf’s activities and expressing support for the victims of Child Exploitation.
