Brazilian pop star Anitta has parted ways with Warner Music after 11 years. In recent months, she had expressed her displeasure with the label and had wished to have her contract terminated.
Anitta hopped on social media last month to share her frustrations and air her grievances with the label directly to her fans. She uploaded a series of posts in English and Portuguese, and her Twitter comments were read by a large number of fans.
A Month of Failed Conversations with the CEO
The dispute between Anitta and her label has been brewing for some time now, but her social media posts are bringing it to a head. The singer took to Instagram on March 8 to repost a Warner Records International Women’s Day post that featured her image.
Subsequently, she embarked on a Twitter rant expressing her deep remorse for signing with the label, even suggesting she would have gone to extreme lengths, like “auctioning off her organs,” to break free from her contract. She added that she “would never bet on this label again” and urged her fans to organize a #FreeAnitta movement on Twitter.
A Breakout 2022
In November, Anitta achieved a major milestone by becoming the first Latin artist to top the Spotify Global chart with her song “Envolver.” The track reached the top spot with more than 3.6 million streams, according to news site Rest of World.
Despite achieving this, Anitta claims she was disappointed that her label didn’t promote her music properly. She was especially upset about the fact that she wasn’t provided with an official music video for “Envolver” until it became a global hit.
