    Aretha Franklin’s Son Calls For Boycott of Biopic

    “The Franklin family does not support the movie that is being made!”

    Kecalf Franklin, son of the late legend that is Aretha Franklin, is condemning MGM’s upcoming biopic about his mother. Although his mother approved of casting Jennifer Hudson to play her, the Queen of Soul’s family didn’t support the film and they urge fans to boycott the production.

    He, who goes by Eradesent Views on Facebook, took to the social media website to express his opinions on the biopic. “How can you create a movie about someone without consulting their sons or grandchildren for vital information? How can you include a person’s family in a book without seeking permission? If you truly admire my mother, please refrain from supporting this.”

    Kecalf Franklin is currently engaged in a legal dispute to gain control of his mother’s estate, which is currently managed by his cousin Sabrina Owens.

    “Respect,” currently in production in Atlanta, being helmed by Tony Award-nominated director and playwright Liesl Tommy who has worked on major TV shows such as The Walking Dead and theatrical adaptations of Disney films such as Frozen.

    While it is unclear if other family members are echoing similar sentiments, he is making it known that he doesn’t approve of the film being made. The biopic is scheduled to be released on October 18th, 2020.
