TV
It’s the start of another awards season, and predictions for this year are a little more cautious than usual. The Golden Globes kick off the festivities, but they’re followed by a busy stretch of ceremonies that culminates with the Oscars on March 12.
It was a big year for television, and it looks like Netflix and HBO/HBO Max are on the leading edge of nominations this year. In addition to the many nominees for TV series, the streaming giants got a few notable nods in the feature film category as well.
Casting Society (CSA) revealed the big picture for the Artios Awards, which honors casting directors in more than 20 categories of film, theatre, and television. Ellen Chenoweth, Mary Vernieu and Bret Howe scored three nominations each, while Lucy Bevan, Kim Coleman, Sarah Halley Finn, Christi Soper Hilt, Avy Kaufman, Bernard Telsey, Natalie Lyon and Kevin Reher all received two nods.
The Artios was first put on in 1985 to recognize casting directors for their contributions to film, television and theatre. Nominees are chosen by members of CSA in good standing. The most prestigious award is the Lynn Stalmaster Award, which goes to an individual whose career achievements in the field of casting have earned them the distinction of being one of the CSA’s most distinguished members.
Theatre
It’s been a few years since the Artios Awards, which honor casting directors in film, TV and theatre, were reimagined for a virtual ceremony. This year, it’s back to the traditional in-person celebration at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
