On August 15, 2024, at a Houston radio station, BeatKing passed out. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital and he later succumbed to the pulmonary embolism. This is when the blood clot, often developed in a deep vein within the legs, becomes dislodged and travels to the lungs, blocking blood circulation and turning life-threatening.
BeatKing was known for his high-voltage performances and songs that caught on. His viral hit “Then Leave” went into the stratosphere through the power of social media, most notably TikTok. He would rise to fame for his pioneering, explicit, sexually aggressive, and touch-and-go bass lines in his music. He has been all over music with features from rap heavyweights like 2 Chainz, Bun B, T-Pain, and Ludacris.
As much as he was a musician and performer, Beat King was also a dedicated father. In his last days, his two daughters trooped with him to the hospital, where he was taking his very last breath. Despite his flamboyant public image, this never paraded in his private family life, and he adored every moment spent with his girls. Music was a way of not only career fulfillment for him, but a connection to his girls and shared experiences through creative storytelling.
A sedentary life is one thing common among musicians, and it usually leads to a pulmonary embolism. Hours of commuting in vehicles with limited space or backstage confinement can lead to deep vein thrombosis—a pre-condition to PE. Other health factors can make the risk even higher. BeatKing’s death definitely reminds us to be more conscious of our health. Especially those within the fast-moving track of the music industry.
The news of BeatKing’s death upended the hip-hop community. Social media exploded with eulogies, memories, and outpourings of sorrow. Fans shared favorite lines or moments, reveling in their impact on so many lives. He had a unique voice and style that really stuck with you.
