Benedict Cumberbatch Confirms Doctor Strange’s MCU Return in New Movie

Benedict Cumberbatch confirms Doctor Strange’s MCU return in new movie! It may not be a full-fledged Doctor Strange 3 just yet, but it looks like the sorcerer supreme will be back on the big screen sooner rather than expected During an appearance at the JW3 Speaker Series, Cumberbatch confirmed his return. He claims he will begin filming for the magical hero next year. It remains unclear exactly what project he’s talking about. Though it’s possible that this is the start of production on a future MCU movie.
Fans haven’t seen Doctor Strange since 2022’s Multiverse of Madness. Though the film’s post-credits scene seemed to set up the character for a future return. Charlize Theron’s character tells Doctor Strange that he caused an incursion. The incursion could lead to two parallel realities colliding – a clear setup for a third movie.
So, will that be the case? Considering the timing, he likely alludes to a film starting in 2024. This is particularly interesting given that two unreleased Marvel films slated for the 2024 year have been delayed. Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Captain America: Brave New World are now set to premiere in 2025.
Though keep in mind that Cumberbatch didn’t clarify whether he’d be returning as the character Doctor Strange. For the time being, let’s just treat this as a teaser. Let’s remain optimistic (with caution) about the possibility of a third film.

Is he returning as Doctor Strange? Or someone else?

There are several unannounced MCU projects that could see the Sorcerer Supreme’s return. Loki Season 2 and WandaVision both involve the Multiverse. They also both feature Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as the villain. so either of these projects might be a good fit for the character. Though if he’s filming for one of these, it would make more sense to continue the story. The story started in the first Doctor Strange movie and brings in a new team to face off against Hela.
In addition, there are several updated Marvel Television shows that may allow for a Doctor Strange cameo, as well. Loki season 2 and Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha: Coven of Chaos are both prime candidates. Both will be dealing with magical elements. Also, the ongoing Multiverse conflict that was set into motion in Spider-Man: No Way Home and the Multiverse of Madness Alternatively, it’s also possible that he’ll appear in a standalone Blade film, as the character is often linked to the mystic side of the MCU
Whatever the case, fans are surely eager to see a return from the man who can bend reality and time. We’ll keep you updated as more information about Cumberbatch’s upcoming project becomes available. In the meantime, you can check out Multiverse of Madness on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital HD now.
