Beyoncés upcoming visual album, Black is King, comes out July 31st. Until then, we have a taste of what to expect thanks to the recently released, minute long trailer clip.
Last month it was announced that Beyoncé would be releasing a visual album, Black is King. The new album is based on last year’s album The Lion King: The Gift.
The visual album is written, directed and produced by Beyoncé. The date of its release coincides with the one year anniversary of Disney’s 2019 “The Lion King”. Beyoncé played the part of Nala in the musical drama film.
As stated in Disney’s press release regarding the project, the visual album “reimagines the lessons of ‘The Lion King’ for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns.”
The project’s feature guests include Jay-Z, Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland, Pharrell Williams, Tina Knowles-Lawson, Lupita Nyong’o, Naomi Campbell and many of the artists that appeared on Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift album.
The film’s cast and crew “represent diversity and connectivity.”
Beyoncé’s most recent work includes her single “BLACK PARADE”, released this past Juneteenth (June 19th). Beyoncé announced that the single’s proceeds would go towards helping black-owned small businesses through her BeyGOOD Black-Owned Small Business Impact Fund.
“Being Black is your activism,” Beyoncé wrote. “Black excellence is a form of protest. Black joy is your right.”
The visual album will premiere July 31st on Disney Plus.
Until then, we will be keeping this trailer on repeat.
