Browns’ Baker Mayfield Suffers Torn Labrum, Shoulder Fracture

Baker Mayfield, the Cleveland Browns quarterback, revealed on Thursday that he broke a bone in his left shoulder. He also endured a torn labrum, per ESPN. Mayfield added that the injury was on his non-throwing shoulder and is “preventing his rotator cuff from firing.”

Optimistic News for the Cleveland Browns

Great news for the Browns, Mayfield returned to practice Tuesday attempting to gear up for the Broncos. Unfortunately, he was ruled out on Wednesday, and backup Case Keenum took over.

“I need the fracture to heal before I can return to the field,” Mayfield said prior to their Thursday night game against the Denver Broncos. He emphasized that he’s hoping to return for the Browns home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, late October.

Mayfield suffered a torn labrum early in the season; however, he reaggravated the injury this past Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. Veteran defensive end J.J. Watt drove Mayfield’s left shoulder into the dirt. He returned back to the game, after appearing

seriously hurt moments after the hit.

“If I am not able to … by 100 percent, that is where I would be out,” Mayfield told reporters. “I have to decide that. I’m the only one who knows how my body feels. If anyone doubts whether I’m hurting the team by playing injured, that’s unfair. It’s up to me. I have the final say on whether I can play or not, and that’s the way it is.”
