Coca-Cola is looking to cash in on the weed industry. With the use of marijuana becoming legal in more areas across the globe, companies are looking to capitalize and profit. According to Canada’s BNN Bloomberg, Coco-Cola is currently looking to create marijuana-infused beverages with cannabis producer Aurora Cannabis.
According to sources, Coke and Aurora are planning to develop health drinks designed to ease inflammation, pain, and cramping.
Along with many others in the beverage industry, we are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world,” Coca-Cola said in a statement.
Coca-Cola also went on to state that “no decisions have been made at this time.” Further, they insisted that they would not provide any additional comments.
And it’s no surprise that Aurora took a similar approach. However, they did state that, “Aurora has expressed specific interest in the infused beverage space, and we intend to enter that market.”
While the U.S. continues to see states legalize cannabis use, Canada — where Aurora is based — is gearing up to fully legalize recreational marijuana use next month. Such a collaboration between a major beverage manufacturer like Coca-Cola and cannabis producer Aurora Cannabis would no doubt be huge for the industry.
