Coldplay’s Chris Martin Suffers On-Stage Accident in Melbourne

Coldplay’s Chris Martin gave fans an absolute shock during the recent concert in Melbourne. Martin fell into an open trap door on stage performing at Marvel Stadium on November 3, 2024. Just as he addressed the crowd between two songs, walking backward, he fell into the gap. Luckily, stagehands quickly rescued him, putting him back up again to the cheers and sighs of relief from thousands around.

The ever-humorous Martin quickly diffused the moment when he was back upright.

    “That was, uh, not planned,”

he laughed, telling the crowd a comment that garnered a ton of laughs. Keeping things light, he added,

“Thank you so much for catching me. Holy s–t. That was almost a YouTube moment.”

Martin’s reaction hit just the right note and helped fans shake that initial shock and continue with the rest of the night with the same energy.

The accident soon became one of those ‘I was there‘ moments for those in attendance as the audience collectively gasped when Martin disappeared into the stage. But once he was back and smiling, a wave of relief rippled through the stadium, and within minutes, videos of the fall flooded social media. Fans have made clips of the fall go viral, sharing their favorite angles of “the Chris Martin trap door incident” and adding yet another memorable moment to the band’s world tour.

Martin has not been the first star to slip on stage in recent months. Some weeks ago, pop star Olivia Rodrigo also fell into a trap door during her Melbourne Rod Laver Arena concert. Her fall also became a social media hit, as it showed that even the biggest stars can have unexpected stumbles on stage.

The incident occurred during Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour, which has kept fans spellbound in several parts of the world since the beginning of the tour in 2022. It is expected to conclude in September 2025, so fans still have opportunities to see the band live in action. Coldplay heads to Sydney’s Accor Stadium on November 6 before embarking on New Zealand and North America.
