Dave Chappelle harshly brings the laughs
Saturday Night Live made a smart move scheduling Dave Chappelle to host the show post-election. Chappelle hosted the show for the first time after the 2016 election too.
For 16 minutes, Chappelle had no issue jumping right into touchy subjects. Americans were plagued with coronavirus, racial tensions among other challenges. Chappelle highlighted the anger the other side feels because Biden and Harris won.
Chappelle talks about a white man in a high place
He goes on to poke fun at Trump for his personal handling of coronavirus. The way the former president dealt with it on a national level was poor. There is no doubt that his lighthearted approach to recovery was worse. In the end, Trump shows that is always going to look out for himself.
“What kind of man makes sure he’s OK, while his friends are fighting for their lives and die? “A White man. And I don’t mean to put this on the Whites, but I’ve been Black for a long time, I notice the pattern.”
Chappelle makes two pitches
First, Chappelle calls on white people to participate in the “kindness conspiracy.” White people should randomly do nice things for Black people who don’t deserve the action. It will make more sense than the unjustified mistreatment of Blacks.
The thing most people enjoy about Dave Chappelle is his ability to see all sides. As a Black man, he knows firsthand what it feels like to be targeted. It’s important for people to consider how the other side feels.
America needs healing. Chappelle asks that Americans not give in to their feelings of tension. Instead, they should fight to enjoy their lives.
“I don’t hate anyone. I simply despise that feeling. That’s what I struggle against, and what I encourage you to fight too. Find a way to live your life. Find a way to forgive each other. Find a way to embrace joy in your existence, despite that feeling.”
