Artist and designer Jose Wong has combined creativity with innovation in bringing Apple’s famous running shoe emoji into the real world as a sneaker, called “Shoe 1.” This is a pioneering project which adds a fun, tech-inspired twist to the sneaker world while embracing sustainability and minimalism.
The Shoe 1 design is borrowed from Apple’s running shoe emoji, which was itself an abstraction from the New Balance 574 model, famously worn by its co-founder Steve Jobs. Wong faithfully replicated the simplistic aesthetic of the emoji substituting the New Balance logotype for two parallel strokes to give it a clean minimalist feel.
Full-grain nubuck leather and breathable mesh make up Shoe 1. In comfort and durability, Shoe 1 is the leading shoe. The midsole and heel are cushioned with EVA foam with a polyurethane rim for everyday wear. With the added appeal, this outsole has incorporated 5% recycled rubber, emphasizing sustainability and not a compromise on quality.
The shoes come in slick, minimal packaging that just screams of Apple’s branding ethos. Each box features the slogan “Designed by Jose Wong in China” emblazoned on it, as well as an insert on plain white paper to further give off that clean and modern vibe Apple aficionados go for.
Shoe 1 runs in sizes from 5 to 12 to fit a wide range of consumers. These sneakers are expected to be very limited edition, shipping shortly, and their price is $219.90. Due to its exclusivity and detailed design, Shoe 1 is definitely going to be a must-have for both collectors and enthusiasts.
Wong wasn’t good with just doing sneakers. He’s also created real versions of other emoji-themed items, including the blue hat emoji, socks, and shirts. Now, fans can actually get a full emoji-inspired ensemble together, enabling them to wear their favorite digital icons in the real world.
