The high-profile feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar took yet another turn as producer Gordo revealed that the reaction of the Canadian rapper to the ongoing conflict was pretty positive. According to Gordo, the “God’s Plan” rapper has been “happier” and “pretty jolly” since the two reignited their feud in March 2024.
When Kendrick Lamar dropped a diss track, “Like That,” off Future and Metro Boomin’s album, the beef was once again reignited between these two heavyweights of hip-hop. Additionally, this record took shots at Drake, and what followed was a number of musical exchanges between the two artists. The notable diss tracks from this dissing rivalry were Drake’s “Push Ups” and Kendrick’s “Not Like Us.” By and large, the public saw Kendrick as the winner in this round of the feud, specifically with “Not Like Us” at the top and having received universal acclamation.
Despite all the intense going back and forth and the public perception, Gordo says Drake’s mood hasn’t been affected one way or another by the beef. He claims Drake has been uncommonly cheerful and pleased, even with the less flattering pictures of him circulating and the overall public consensus being in Kendrick’s favor.
“He’s been in a great place, happier than I’ve seen him in a while,”
Gordo said.
“The beef hasn’t bothered him; if anything, it’s given him a new kind of energy”.
Gordo spoke more about how the feud had affected their creative juices. He and Drake have spent time together in studios working on Gordo’s debut album, “Diamante,” which Drake is featured on. Not only has this been efficient, but it has also brought them closer together.
“We’ve always had a great relationship, but this period has brought us even closer. The beef has been a source of motivation rather than a distraction”.
It’s a shocking revelation from Gordo, but it really puts celebrity feuds in perspective. What appears in the public eye is often quite different from what may be the case privately. Even as both the fans and the media view feuds to be rather negative occurrences, they sometimes have bizarre personal effects on the artists involved. For Drake, the feud with Kendrick appears to have generated a newfound sense of happiness and creativity. The lesson learned is that things aren’t always simple when analyzing the results of such rivalries.
