At first glance, you wouldn’t think it, but “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” is an anime that will have up all night. This Anime tells the story of what would happen if gods like Apollo, Loki, Freya, or Hestia come to live with mortals. The gods make families with mortals call familia’s by giving them their blessings. The character’s growth in the Anime is set up like an RPG video game. Each time they travel in the dungeon to fight monsters, they level up.
The story follows a boy named Bell Cranel and his goddess, Hestia. The Hestia familia was once one of the weakest familia’s around until Bell unlocks a skill that allows his stats to grow rapidly as long as he has feelings for someone. Hence, introduce another character and probably the strongest human in the series so far, Ais Wallenstein. She is a high-level warrior that is apart of the Loki familia. One day she saves Bell, and at first sight, he falls in love with her. Bell continues to grow and earns respect for him and his familia as he takes on challenges that he never thought would happen.
Balance.
The Anime does a great job of balancing out its kids and dark aspects. Whereas some scenes can be as kid-friendly as a pokemon scene, others can get dark with views of prostitution, murder, and woman-beating. This Anime is not what it looks like. However, the story tries to not go that deep into the darker aspects. The characters are well designed, and the stories are entertaining. The fight scenes are good and not too flashy like in Black Clover. “Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?” or “Family Myth” uses an assortment of gods from different mythologies. There are only a few well-known gods, but that’s a good thing. It would have been such a cliche to use gods that the whole world knows.
Overall, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, Is a good anime to watch for entertainment reasons. It’s not kid-friendly and has some dark twist and turns to it. It has a lot of sexual content, but nothing to kill yourself about. You will enjoy the characters because there is a lot to like, trust me. There has been an announcement that season 3 is on the way, but no exact date yet.
