The Russo siblings are back, and they’re ready to teleport everyone back to their childhood. Selena Gomez and David Henrie are reprising their roles as siblings Alex and Justin Russo in the upcoming “Wizards Of Waverly Place” spinoff series, “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.”

At Disney’s upfront event Tuesday, Gomez shared a first look at the sequel, stirring up excitement and nostalgia among fans of the original series. Disney also shared two photos, one of which shows Gomez and Henrie holding wands inside the classic family lair of the Waverly Sub Station in New York, a sight that is sure to bring back fond memories for viewers. The second stated that “everything is not what it seems in…” with the third revealing the upcoming series’ title, “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.”
Gomez and Henrie are not just returning to the screen; they are also serving as executive producers for the show, alongside Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels, and writers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas. Their combined efforts promise to bring this project to life with a fresh perspective while maintaining the charm of the original series.
The sequel series follows an adult Justin Russo, who has chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family. However, when Justin’s sister Alex brings her wizard-in-training child, Billie, to his home seeking help, Justin realizes he must dust off his magical skills. Balancing his everyday responsibilities while mentoring the young wizard will be a challenge.
New cast members include Justin’s wife Giada, played by Mimi Gianopulos, and sons Roman and Milo, played by Alkaio Thiele and Max Matenko respectively. The plot of the new series centers around Justin Russo, who gave up his magic to live a normal life with his wife and kids. However, when Alex brings her young wizard child, Billie, to Justin for help mastering their powers, Justin must juggle his normal life with mentoring Billie and protecting the wizarding world.
The original sitcom aired for four seasons from 2007 to 2012 on Disney Channel and spawned a film “Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie” and TV special “The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex.” The reboot, “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” is set to release later this year on Disney Channel and Disney+.
