Florence Pugh Reportedly Still in Talks for Rapunzel in Disney’s ‘Tangled’ Live-Action Adaptation

Disney fans can rejoice now that the very highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Tangled keeps them over the moon. The magical world of Rapunzel is about to strike again, and there is one big question in everyone’s mind: who is going to play the role of this iconic princess? The talks going on include the name of Florence Pugh, an actress full of talent and credentials, to bring Rapunzel to life on screen.

The front-runner for the role of Rapunzel is Florence Pugh, critically acclaimed for her work in Midsommar, Little Women, and as Yelena Belova in Marvel’s Black Widow and Hawkeye. Insiders say Disney is in talks with her, and things could shut down at any minute. With her brilliant acting skill, Pugh can rightly pull off Spirited and Independent Rapunzel, pleasing old and new audiences.

Ironically enough, Tangled’s original Flynn Rider, Zachary Levi, made it clear that once Pugh does take the lead as Rapunzel, he will be reprising his role. Levi even joked during a convention some time ago about the coincidence of how his last name is Pugh, and so with the surname already in place between the two lead characters, that alone would kind of make things a bit fun. The fans remain hopeful that confirmation for their on-screen match-up would indeed add to the charm of the film.

The mind behind the visually spectacular work of filmmaker Michael Gracey, from The Greatest Showman, joins hands with writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson for a screenplay from a mind behind the 2022 hit Do Revenge. This new, live-action Tangled looks set to be both a visually stimulating and emotionally affecting retelling of the original animation. While it’s pretty much taken as a given that Gracey will be at the helm of directing the movie, some conjectures even said that Baz Luhrmann, director of Elvis and The Great Gatsby, could be called upon as Gracey’s possible replacement. Nothing has been confirmed just yet, however.

With Pugh seeming the likely favorite for Rapunzel, the casting rumors aren’t over just yet. There’s a purported line of casting where Kathryn Hahn will get the part of Mother Gothel, who imprisons Rapunzel in a rather crafty and underhanded fashion. Other speculations involving the part of Rapunzel name Sabrina Carpenter, putting a little extra on this fire. As it is right now, though, Pugh does reign as fan favorite.

Many have been speculating regarding the castings and how this live-action version will pull off, compared to the 2010 animated film. Highly hyped to see Florence Pugh, how she can bring in a new kind of Rapunzel while maintaining the soul of the original. And that chemistry between Pugh and Levi-if he comes aboard too-is a thing fans have just not waited for but wanted.

The film, from Burr! Productions, will be produced by Kristin Burr alongside Emmy-winning producer Lucy Kitada. Production should start shortly, though there’s no confirmation yet from Disney on the release date of the film. As this film goes into production, fans are very much on the lookout for any further information-something that was happening especially because the casting puzzle seems to fall into place.
