Recently, 1500 members of Generation Z were interviewed. Some of these people expressed a liking for platonically-inspired tales. In his study, researchers from UCLA reported that 51.5 percent of respondents wanted higher levels of non-sexual romance on TV.
Most Gen Z participants think there is an oversupply of sexual scenes in film and television. Among these was Ana, who declared an uneasiness within herself when viewing intimate-laden media with her friends. According to a second individual called Joseph, together with other friends, they will have no options but to bear up erotic moments.
Gen Z’s Preference for Platonic Relationships in Media: A Shift in Storytelling
Experts argue that Gen Z is not totally unmoved by sex or intimacy in advertisements or broadcasts. Yalda Uhls, founder of the CSS, states that today’s children are more interested in multiple relationships as opposed to reduced sex.
This might be because of the sense of isolation that comes with covid 19. The nomadism of Gen Z may be attributed to this. Stephanie Rivas-Lara and Hiral Kotecha conducted a study on Gen Z. The study notes that the experience of disconnection is more intense because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Societies make a great deal more disconnection for Gen Z than it does.
The independence-centric nature of Gen Z makes a mark on their self-image. They do not conform to these conventional norms, but instead, they break away from them. However, despite their tendencies towards individualism, they have not thrown away the values treasured by the former generations. These are the values that they hold dear – friendship, the need to learn and venture out.
Unfortunately, many people who study stories worry that we’re leaving something out. They are essential yet fundamental, but sadly, we look too much at techs and social media. Therefore, we should not forget these critical elements in our lives and stories.
