Halsey has been at work on an album called “The Great Impersonator,” described as a deeply confessional concept album. This next work, her fifth studio album, holds particular weight because, as shared by Halsey, it reflects personal turmoil and thoughtful introspection following serious health issues. This journey of sound waves, as Halsey calls it, has led to an album she believes may be her very last after being diagnosed with Lupus SLE and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022.
The album is peculiar in that it celebrates genres and eras of music, envisioning Halsey as an artist releasing her work for the first time in every decade-from the 1970s through the 2000s-questioning every time, Who was she? The whole idea is hinged on self-discovery-her rumination on whether the persona she showed to the world with all sublimity in subtlety was the real one after all.
Halsey has also described the album as her “confession” and a “plea for kindness,” revealing that she has been holding on to secrets and feelings that this music is now giving voice to. The album is multifarious, representing her yearning to wing into unexplored territories and defy genre barriers.
Although there isn’t an announced release date, but so far singles like “Lonely Is The Muse” and “Lucky” have gotten everyone hyped for what’s in store.
