Harry Styles, the One Direction singer, is in discussions to portray Prince Eric in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, as reported by Variety. He’s currently in talks to join The Little Mermaid as Prince Eric.
Details about other potential actors being considered for the role of Prince Eric and the timing of the final casting decision remain uncertain.
Confirmed cast members include Halle Bailey as Ariel and Melissa McCarthy as the villainous Ursula. The talks with Styles are said to be in the early stages, according to Variety writer Justin Kroll.
It’s possible that Styles might still be considering whether to take on the role.
The film will be directed by Rob Marshall, known for his work on movies like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Into the Woods, and Mary Poppins Returns.
The movie will feature songs from the original 1989 animated film, along with new compositions by Disney legends Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Recent reports suggest that discussions are underway with Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay for the roles of Scuttle and Flounder, respectively.
Harry Styles previously appeared in Christopher Nolan’s war film Dunkirk. He reportedly auditioned for the role of Elvis in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic, but the part was eventually given to Austin Butler.
According to Justin Kroll, Styles was a strong contender for the role of Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid, but there were complications due to his audition for Elvis. Kroll mentioned that Styles kept the offer open until the Elvis decision was made before moving forward with his next choice.
While Harry Styles would make an excellent Prince Eric, some suggest Shawn Mendes as an alternative option. What are your thoughts? Feel free to share your opinions below!
