HBO Max, WB to release 10 movies to boost subscription
According to the Hollywood Reporter ,Warner Bros. set to release it’s 2021 films on HBO Max in hopes to luring more subscribers to the streaming platform. Apparantly, same day (as theaters) streaming release films have been doing well post pandemic. And, it may stick around for the forseeable future. Previously, the Streaming giant, has already done same day releases when they decided to promote Wonder Woman 1984 as such. They plan to maintain that strategy. Furthermore, both Disney + and HBO Max have enjoyed profits with their same day as theaters releases. Currently, HBO Subscription starts at $9.99-$14.99. The Caveat is that same day as theaters releases are only available on the $14.99 ad free version.
Which Films Should You Expect?
Well, not much has been released about these ten films. However, when looking at their website, it’s pretty easy to see which films will be premiering thanks to their timeline of releases. Now, this isn’t to say that better films or additional won’t be released at a later time. For instance, it’s well known that DC Comics and WB will be doing simultaneous releases like The Batman coming in 2022. Also, it isn’t completely clear that all films are WB property. But an IMDB search can give you further information on these films.
Of the ten films, one has to think, Space Jam: A New Legacy is one of them as Warner Bros left their calling card all over that film. Other releases include James Gunn’s Suicide Squad which Max boasts will have a special screening on August 5th at 7pm. Additionally, on August 20th, from the minds of WestWorld, Reminiscence starring Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Fergunson will drop on then, as Well.
Then, September 10th, horror film malignant will premiere. On September 17, Cry Macho, a Clint Eastwood film.
The prequel to The Sopranos, titled The Many Saints of Newark, will debut on October 1st.
October 22, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides who will take on his great destiny.
King Richard premiers on November 19th.
Finally, a Matrix film will be hitting the subscription service in December 22 but is untitled at the moment. It is also unclear if this will be a prequel, remake, or sequel.
DC Comics/WB partnership with HBO Max
For future releases, fans should expect The Batman, DC Super Pets, Black Adam, The Flash, Aquaman 2, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and Wonder Woman 3 to also get this treatment. As, with the disolving of the DC Universe streaming platform*, Warner Bros and DC Comics have paired with HBO Max as their preferred streaming plaform. All of it’s TV shows will premiere and stream there and you can expect films to follow suit. But is it enough to entice more subscribers to the platform?
