He’s the man of steel, the last son of Krypton, and one of the most iconic superheroes of all time. But could he also be the next star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Many fans ask, “Will Henry Cavill, who plays Superman in the DC Extended Universe, join the MCU as Captain Britain?” He expressed his interest in the role.
In an interview, Cavill told The Hollywood Reporter that he would love to play a “cool, modernized version” of Captain Britain. This character is often considered the British counterpart of Captain America. Cavill said that he had been a fan of the character since childhood. He also said he would enjoy bringing him to life on the big screen.

But is this just a pipe dream, or could it happen? Some reports say Cavill may have already been cast as Captain Britain in the MCU. These rumors suggest that Cavill could star in a movie or a series. This show would involve MI6 and the Excalibur Project, a secret organization that deals with supernatural threats. The Excalibur Project is also the name of a comic book storyline that featured Captain Britain and other British superheroes.

However, before you get too excited, remember these are still unconfirmed rumors, and Marvel or Cavill has officially announced nothing. So, take them with a grain of salt, and don’t get your hopes too high.
But who is Captain Britain anyway, and why should you care? Well, Captain Britain, or Brian Braddock, is a character. He was created in 1976 by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe. He is a physicist who was involved in a near-fatal accident. Then, the magician Merlyn visited him. Merlyn offered Brian a choice between the Amulet of Might and the Sword of Might. Brian chose the amulet, which granted him superpowers. He also gained the mantle of Captain Britain, the protector of Britain and the multiverse.
Captain Britain possesses super strength, can fly, shoot energy beams, and create force fields. He is also a skilled fighter and a leader of various superhero teams, such as the Excalibur and the Captain Britain Corps. He is often depicted as a noble, patriotic hero and a flawed and conflicted human being.
In the current comic book continuity, Brian’s sister, Betsy Braddock, also known as Psylocke, has taken over the title of Captain Britain. Meanwhile, Brian operates as Captain Avalon. This means that if Cavill were to join the MCU as Captain Britain, it’s unclear which version of the character he would play. It’s also unclear how he would fit into the existing narrative.
