Hugh Jackman Ready for Wolverine in AVENGERS: SECRET WARS if RDJ and Tobey Maguire Join

Are you all you ready, X-Men fans? The Wolverine may be ready to pop his claws one more time and let the berserker rage loose, but there is a strange asterisk involved. Rumor is the Aussie actor wants to bring his iconic role back for the upcoming Avengers: Secret Wars, but on one condition he gets to fulfill the dream of sharing the screen with two other former giants of superhero cinema, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man.

Should WandaVision even make a reunion possible, this all plays into the hands of one of Marvel Studios’ favourite toys: the multiverse, something it’s been gleefully playing with in movies like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Given that the series is rooted in a concept that includes multiple characters from alternate realities, this opens up all sorts of interesting crossover potential and resurrects heroes we believed to be dead for all eternity.

Jackman has made no secret of his interest in an encore. While that already has a spot in Deadpool 3, there are reports that he will take on the role of a variant Wolverine now to keep the timeline set forth by his emotionally charged departure from Logan intact. Whispers concerning Downey Jr. returning, maybe as a variant Tony Stark range from this bend’s September 2021 legislation to date. Fans would likely cheer if he appeared in Secret Wars thanks to its incorporation of a multiverse framework.

If these rumors are true, then the New Secret Wars nostalgia factor is through the roof. Wouldn’t that just be the absolute best thing in the whole wide world to see our favourite leads back into their superhero suits? It is part of Marvel’s history-laden weave, which coincides brilliantly with the company’s current strategy of blending old-school protagonists with young blood, further building out an interconnected universe designed to appeal to longtime followers but not estrange new viewers.

This iconic trio being included would completely shift the tide of the MCU. Yet not only would this fulfil the fan long-held desire to bring these heroes back together, but it would afford an opportunity to tell these stories in an entirely new context the rapidly widening multiverse. The introduction of legacy characters in new stories is exactly what could make for an engaging, human tale of the ongoing multiverse saga.

Aware of the passion of their fanbase, something clearly about which they wish to remain reverent while still forging into the new Marvel Cinematic Universe future. That they would ponder at bringing these well loved characters back to the screen, shows that they are very mindful of the MCU’s proud and long standing heritage and wanting to keep it new, exciting and very faithful to its roots. Hold onto your butts, True Believers Secret Wars may turn out to be the sprawling cross-universe epic of gravity-defying battle and long-awaited deus ex that has been promised all along.
