Hugh Jackman’s Insane 6,000 Calorie Diet for Wolverine Transformation in Deadpool 3

All geared up to play the role of iconic Wolverine is Hugh Jackman in the hugely anticipated Deadpool 3. The 55-year-old actor, this time, will face a lot of new challenges to get that signature ripped look of the character.

Jackman will bulk up through dedicated gym time and diet. He quipped in an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that he shoveled in 6,000 calories a day; it’s probably closer to half that, but still incredibly high. He consumes vast quantities of lean protein in the form of chicken and fish, and plenty of vegetables, to fuel his punishing workouts.

Jackman made light of how many calories he had to really feed on to hit that 6,000 calorie per day target, which is equal to eating some 24 Big Mac burgers every day. For some, it might seem like a dream diet; however, this actually did not turn out to be so. Jackman’s diet has mostly been lean proteins—chicken, tilapia, green beans—a literary and culinary mile away from the burgers he spoke about.

In that regard, it’s very obvious how much Jackman has dedicated himself to the craft, for he’s continued being able to power through this punishing regimen despite the years. “It’s not as easy as it used to be,” Jackman confessed in a rather reflective moment on what it was like going through that now, at his age, versus when he was in his 40s and first donning the Wolverine suit. If anything may be amazing, it is probably just exactly how so much wear and tear this particular role has on his body through exercise alone—added to all the extra calories, which makes this preparation one of the toughest in his career.

The current strikes in Hollywood have also put a kink in Jackman’s preparation. Because of delays, the actor has had to extend his extreme diet and workout regime much longer than he initially expected. This Pulitzer Prize-winning play meant not only production schedules thrown off initially by the strike but also how long Jackman will be forced to keep his body in Wolverine-like shape—now making an arduous process even gut-wrenching.

Despite all the odds, Jackman continues to make sure that he gives his best shot to live up to the expectations of his fans. His commitment towards the role is a lifelong credential of professionalism and passion for the character to which he has literally become synonymous—Wolverine, synonymous with Jackman himself.
